Child Actors That Made It Big

It’s almost that time of the year when Macaulay Culkin’s Home Alone will once again greet our TV screens. During the 90’s Culkin was the kid to watch out for. He was in every other movie, he starred in TV shows and he made an appearance in Michael Jackson’s Black Or White video.

Unfortunately, Culkin wasn’t able to maintain his rein; he made a few bad decisions and got into legal trouble that prevented filmmakers from signing him on projects. It wasn’t long until he completely vanished from the big screen.

There are many child actors whose careers have paralleled Culkin’s but there are some that overcame all the hurdles and emerged as skilled actors even as adults.

Let’s take a look at child actors that made it big in the industry:

Ryan Gosling

Before Ryan Gosling became the dreamy lead actor of box office hits like La La Land and The Notebook, he starred in Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club alongside Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

Gosling won the hearts of tweens and teenagers all over the country and was later signed on to kid’s shows such as Goosebumps and Are Your Afraid of the Dark? The actor was in the industry for a while before he bagged the lead role in The Notebook which propelled his career to new heights.

Leonardio Dicaprio

Dicaprio was born to be a star. He’s been in show business since he was a teenager. His natural talent and irresistible charm made him a force to be reckoned with in the industry from a very young age.

It’s no wonder that Leo was handpicked by Robert De Niro to play a leading role in This Boy’s Life which came out in 1993. After that there was no turning back for the powerhouse that is Dicaprio!

He went on to secure the lead roles in Titanic, Inception and The Revenant for which he received his first Oscar.

Christina Ricci

People over the age of 30 may be familiar with the name Christina Ricci but they’ll struggle to place a face to. Ricci made waves with her role as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family TV shows and movies.

Ricci took a break from the screen after The Addams Family but then resurfaced in several indie films. She also had guest appearances in Saving Grace, Ally McBeal and Grey’s Anatomy.

The actor eventually secured a lead role in The Lizzie Bordin Chronicles which is a TV mini-series that released in 2015. In 2016, she starred Mothers and Daughters and in Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything.

Drew Barrymore

You can’t have list of child actors without mentioning Drew Barrymore. The actor was born into a family of film and stage artists so it makes sense she has a knack for acting.

Barrymore signed onto Spielberg’s ET at the mere age of 7 and Firestarter two years later. She went onto play leading characters in huge films like Scream, Charlie’s Angels and The Wedding Singer.

Barrymore is busy with Santa Clarita Diet, a comedy show on Netflix produced by her own company.

Kirsten Dunst

Prior to playing Mary Jane in Spider-Man movies, Dunst was a promising child actor who starred against big shots like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. At the age of just 12, Dunst bagged her first Golden Globe Award. From then on, Dunst has been part of some massive hits like Bring it On and Sam Raimi’s Spider Man trilogy.

In recent years, Dunst has been pushing herself to take upon roles that challenge her.

There are child actors across the country that have the ability to comprehend and play nuanced character. Under the guidance of a good filmmaker along with a strong support system, child actors can make it big in the industry even as adults.

Gavin Warren is an up and coming child actor with dreams of making it huge in Hollywood. He made his debut in First Man (2018) and is all set to take the lead in his next project, The Descendant (2019). Check out his resume.
